Way Out There

We are now at Micah Village, a small intentional community located on a large, wind-swept mesa just south of Socorro.

Gripping the steering wheel tightly against the winds whipping dust across the highway in powerful gusts, we made our way south from Albuquerque and landed at Micah well before dark. The mesa is dotted with small compounds of homes, trailers, RVs and outbuildings, and the views are starkly beautiful in every direction.

Here in the desert, there are lizards, rattlesnakes, bull snakes, scorpions, coyotes, eagles, hawks, migratory birds, black widows, brown recluses, and any number of creatures slithering, walking or winging their way across the scrubby landscape.

Our welcome here to Micah was warm and hospitable, and we look forward to several days of hanging out, getting to know the handful of people who live here, and taking in the very different landscape that is introducing us to life in the desert.

  1. Look at that! There are places in southern New Mexico that I've only seen in photos, having not explored much of it.

I look forward to seeing more pictures!
